Hand-held 3D Printing Pen 3Doodler Unveiled at IFA

BERLIN, September 5, 2013 — (PRNewswire) —

Most affordable 3D printing device shown for first time at European tech show

3Doodler, the world's first 3D printing pen, showcases its final consumer-ready product at IFA this September. The pen, which will retail at just $99, allows people to create amazing 3D objects, limited only by their own imagination.

The 3Doodler first made headlines by raising over $2.3 million on crowd-funding site Kickstarter, making it one of the most successful Kickstarter projects of all time. Since then, the 3Doodler has been hotly anticipated with a waiting list that boasts some of the best-known names in architecture, art and design.

About the pen

Compact and easy to use, the 3Doodler allows you to literally draw in the air - whether freestyle 3D sketching or tracing shapes from templates to make larger architectural structures; the 3Doodler allows designers, geometrists, hobbyists, artists, and architects to test out their ideas quickly and easily.

3Doodler uses both ABS and PLA plastic as the pen's "ink", just like the more expensive 3D printers on the market. ABS is very resilient and one of the most common plastics around, while PLA is a biodegradable "bioplastic" with a lower melting temperature than ABS, and very well suited to Doodling on glass, metal, or in other mixed medium creations.

The compact and simple design has sparked imaginations worldwide; handmade bikes, Brazilian parrots and even small-scale models of the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben are just a few of the works that have been created. Despite the wide array of creative possibilities, 3Doodler is easy to use and requires only a power socket and a strand of plastic to start drawing within minutes.

"We wanted to push the boundaries of design and allow users to be creative without restrictions such as access to sophisticated software programs." said Maxwell Bogue, Co-Founder & CEO of WobbleWorks. "With 3Doodler, you don't need any technical knowledge or an expensive computer, just a creative mind and the desire to have fun! There are serious commercial applications of course, but the 3Doodler is affordable enough to appeal to a wide variety of consumers too. Following more than a year of development, we're very excited to be revealing the final version of the pen at IFA this year".

Initial production is underway to deliver the first 3Doodlers to early backers on schedule this month. Refills for the pen are readily available and, like the pen, have intentionally been kept affordable.

About WobbleWorks, Inc.

The 3Doodler is the world's first 3D printing pen, having quickly become Kickstarters most popular 3D consumer printing device and the third highest funded technology project on Kickstarter. This month, 3Doodler have announced their 3D printing pens are on schedule and shipping out to the pen's first backers in September.

Designed by WobbleWorks, Inc., an emerging consumer electronics and robotics company with big ideas, the 3Doodler has been created to be compact and easy to use, you simply plug the 3Doodler into a power socket and start drawing anything in 3D within minutes. Whether freestyle 3D sketching, or tracing shapes from templates to make larger architectural structures, anything is possible.

Note: the plastic extruded from 3Doodler is safe to touch once it has left the pen, but the pen itself has a metal tip that can reach 240C, so the 3Doodler is not a toy for children!
