Enview Explore Web Application Launched

September 24th, 2020 by Susan Smith

This week  Enview,  a company in the vanguard of the field of scalable processing of 3D geospatial data, announced the launch of Enview Explore™, a web application that leverages AI and cloud computing to automatically process 3D data at great speed and scale. Additionally, Robert Cardillo, former director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), has joined the company’s Board of Directors. Following an oversubscribed round of funding in May, the company continues to experience growth and momentum in the market.

“Mapping the world in 3D opens new possibilities for national security and mission-critical infrastructure, including some of the most important challenges facing our nation today,” said Cardillo. “Enview has completely changed the game when it comes to what’s possible with LiDAR visualization and analysis, making unstructured data accessible and easy to use: in other words, creating coherence out of chaos. With a shared purpose and commitment, I look forward to working with the Enview team toward the future the world demands and our customers deserve.”

“Enview has built the world’s most scalable AI platform for transforming 3D point clouds into insight and action,” said San Gunawardana, Ph.D., co-founder and CEO of Enview. “We are solving one of the hardest problems in machine perception, and applying it to some of the most grounded and impactful challenges facing society. It is our goal to empower people with the confidence to perceive and navigate a rapidly changing world; Enview Explore is the natural next step in this journey and our team is excited to place this groundbreaking capability directly into the hands of operational end-users.”

Gunawardana spoke with GISCafe Voice regarding Enview Explore and its value to GIS workflows.

What types of workflows would you use Enview Explore for?

Enview Explore was designed to help generate insights from 3D data by automating the manual labor of traditional LiDAR processing. While current methods can take weeks or more to produce actionable insights, Explore reduces processing time to a matter of minutes. This enables users in a wide variety of industries to save time, reduce costs, and focus resources on what matters most. Explore is commonly used to support wildfire prevention, pipeline monitoring, electric utility risk assessment, national security mission planning, geohazard identification, and terrain modeling.

Enview’s proven technology has been deployed on thousands of square miles worldwide to protect vital infrastructure and support mission-critical operations. Its unique method for classifying 3D data using neural networks and deep learning techniques reduces time to action by focusing on finding meaningful insights in 3D data. Previously offered as custom services for organizations such as Pacific Gas & Electric and the United States Air Force, this groundbreaking technology is now available for the first time as an easy-to-use, self-service web application.

Is Explore your first product?

Enview has been helping customers gain insight from their 3D data since its inception in 2015. We used to perform work on behalf of customers in professional services engagements, but have made the strategic decision to make our 3D AI backend available as a SaaS product this year. Enview Explore is officially the first self-service product to be released by Enview, but it is built upon a 3D AI backend that has been proven for years.

What are the primary features of Explore?

Explore combines Enview’s novel AI with the power of cloud computing to automate 3D data analytics, giving users the scalability to process even nation-sized datasets. Users of Explore most commonly perform classification and segmentation of 3D point clouds, terrain modeling such as hillshades, slope, aspect, and contour generation, change detection of 3D datasets, feature extraction, and hard object detection. We continue to add new functionality to Explore every month, so we encourage everyone to check back with our website often to learn more.

What new technologies have enabled your release?

At the core of Enview Explore is our novel 3D AI framework. Traditional computer vision/image processing algorithms are fundamentally incapable of operating on 3D point clouds. Enview has developed AI algorithms from the ground up that work specifically for 3D geospatial data. We’ve combined that unique AI with a proprietary, containerized software engine that can dynamically scale up to tens of thousands of CPU/GPU cores to process large areas in hours, or scale down to austere compute environments for forward deployment.  With the release of Explore, we’ve added better support for low-density point clouds, and more accurate AI methods for identifying ground, buildings and vegetation from 3D data.

Key benefits of Enview Explore include:

Unlock the power of 3D data

Three-dimensional unstructured data, such as LiDAR, contains incredible detail but is painfully slow to analyze manually. Enview solves this problem by combining its novel AI with the power of cloud computing to automate 3D classification and segmentation, giving users scalability that can support even nation-sized datasets.

Gain the advantage of unprecedented speed

While current methods can take weeks or more to process data, Enview provides actionable insights in minutes. Enview Explore utilizes a new and innovative approach that applies AI to 3D data, yielding significantly faster results than traditional LiDAR software.

Reap the benefits of total data control

Enview Explore removes the need for outsourcing LiDAR to a third party by giving users the ability to perform classification, segmentation, terrain modeling, change detection, feature extraction, and intuitive visualization directly inside the application.

Pricing and Availability

Enview Explore is generally available today. Pricing is based on the amount of data processed and not limited by the number of users. For more information, please visit www.enview.com.
