PowerStream Selects Responder OMS to Provide for Efficient Outage Restoration

OMS will support over 240,000 Customers

October 8, 2008 -- Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, is pleased to announce PowerStream selects Telvent’s Responder outage management system (OMS) to provide timely and accurate predictions for more efficient power restoration. Responder OMS will leverage PowerStream’s existing investment in the GIS by providing dispatchers and key management immediate notification while effectively managing outage incidents.

PowerStream is the third largest local electricity distribution company in Ontario, Canada delivering power to more than 240,000 residential and business customers in the municipalities of Aurora, Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan.

In 2005, PowerStream selected the ArcFM™ Solution together with ESRI’s ArcGIS® as a single GIS platform to replace its existing legacy applications. A successful implementation of the ArcFM Solution led PowerStream to the selection of additional Telvent products including Responder OMS, Designer, and Fiber Manager.

“PowerStream is fundamentally a location-based organization. This means we care about the 'where' aspect of our assets,” said Kris Philpott, Manager, GIS Development, “PowerStream’s GIS is a scaled model of our electrical distribution system. As such its value is immeasurable; it allows us to manage our in-service assets.”

The initial Responder implementation project includes integration with SCADA, AMI and CIS. “Responder allows PowerStream to leverage our GIS with OMS for the purposes of aiding in work crew management, enhancing overall customer service, as well as having the most current data available to support outage restoration.” said Jack Jacoby, Manager, System Control.

PowerStream is also currently implementing Designer which will provide the engineering staff with a GIS integrated design tool that will improve the timeliness of GIS data. Future projects include the implementation of Fiber Manager and integration with AVL, IVR and workforce management.
