KlingStubbins Incorporates IES’ Integrated Analysis Tools Into Sustainable Design Process

SAN FRANCISCO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 17, 2009— Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), a world leading provider of integrated performance analysis software and consulting services for sustainable building design, today announced KlingStubbins selected the IES <Virtual Environment> Suite to ensure a more integrated approach to both its operations and design processes. Using IES’ <VE> tools, KlingStubbins now includes critical sustainable design elements into each component of its projects and significantly cuts the time invested through seamless coordination between architect and engineering teams.

As a highly-regarded design firm, KlingStubbins presents its clients with the best in sustainable design. Finding a way to coordinate between 3D modeling tools such as Bentley’s Generative Components and Autodesk’s Revit was important to KlingStubbins. The company undertook a three month study of the IES <VE >, which had at that time just introduced a link to Revit. The study delved into the ability of designers to take project designs and quickly export them directly into the <VE> analysis engine to ensure energy performance and design intent was kept in mind throughout the design process.

Ultimately KlingStubbins was so impressed with the suite they purchased the license immediately after the trial period ended. By incorporating IES’ analysis tools into the design process, KlingStubbins has streamlined its operations, enabling designers to work within one modeling solution, rather than individually integrating each step in the process.

“The biggest challenge we were seeing with our clients was the need for very detailed information about building performance earlier and earlier in the design process,” said Jonathan Weiss, director of sustainability at KlingStubbins. “We need to have tools that allow us to make comparative decisions early on, so that we can make sure that we meet performance targets for energy and LEED. The quality of their solution, combined with an extremely responsive and knowledgeable team, has made the decision very easy to continue to work with IES.”

“It is important for us to always offer our customers an array of stand-out design services that will ultimately increase the quality for both the designer and the end-client,” said Kevin Settlemyre, president of IES North America. “The green building market is becoming more and more competitive. By continuously updating our solutions with outstanding features, we are staying ahead of the curve and providing the best possible services to our customers.”

The IES <Virtual Environment> provides building designers with the ability to customize analysis to fit their needs, specifically in energy consumption, carbon emissions, LEED Daylighting, Architecture 2030 Challenge benchmarking, thermal comfort, solar shading and penetration, and many others. The tools are also integrated around a central 3D model that can connect directly with Google SketchUp™, Autodesk Revit and via gbXML along with other 3D design tools. This allows users to easily and quickly fit performance analysis into design workflow without rebuilding geometry.
