Vero to present geometry validation and model healing at SolidWorks World

Vero USA will present the VISI suite of software to SolidWorks users at the SolidWorks World 2010 exhibition to be held in Anaheim, California, from 31st January to 3rd February.

Vero are experts in the field on mold & die and were the first company to integrate the use of Parasolid (the same kernel used by SolidWorks) on the PC platform. For more than 15 years, Vero have optimized the use of the Parasolid kernel and added their own extended surface technology and industry knowledge. The Vero products are able to read SolidWorks files directly as well as a number of other native formats including CATIA (v4 & v5), Unigraphics, Solid Edge, ACIS, IGES and STEP.

Vero will highlight how VISI can be used as a complementary tool to run parallel with SolidWorks within the design process. Vero will focus on the unique features for geometry fixing, data healing, manipulation and model deformation.  When working with imported data, the quality of the model is an important consideration and can have a dramatic effect on the project success. Finding potential problems at an early stage within the project life cycle will greatly simplify the task of the designer and generate huge time and cost savings further downstream for both tool design & manufacture.

VISI is innovative in combining the best in solids and surface modeling, with complex model analysis and plastic flow simulation tailored towards 3D tool design and manufacture. Basing a tool design on a preventive flow analysis can detect potential manufacturing issues such as welding lines, air traps and best gate location - providing the maximum time frame for a corrective solution.

Some of the geometry analysis and healing tools are listed below :

Model Comparison
Important for when you receive model revisions, this option allows the user to make a comparison between two solid models or surface sets and graphically present the design changes and common zones.

Model Curvature
This option allows the user to define both the curvature and the curvature radius of surface and solid models. Ideal for validating minimum & maximum radii.

Draft Analysis
A very important application for the molding industry. This tool allows the user to define multiple draft scenarios and graphically visualize the matching conditions providing a better understanding of the part moldability.

Model Thickness Analysis
A very important application for the molding industry. This tool graphically displays the model thickness using multiple algorithms providing valuable information for potential molding issues such as material accumulation, gating positions, rib criteria and cooling channel locations.

Smooth Edges / Simplify Edges
These tools allow the user to validate and improve model data, especially imported geometry. Smooth Edges provides a visual check of model tangency conditions. Simplify Edges is an advanced tool to validate and update polyline edge conditions.

Model Splitting - core & cavity
What can typically be a time consuming and complex task, VISI provides a number of applications for model splitting, split line creation, shut off surfaces and core & cavity construction.

Bend Relief
An application developed for the automotive tooling industry. This powerful tool allows the user to select complex fillet radii (that may cause splitting or creasing conditions during stamping) and automatically reconstruct the fillet conditions with new values and linear tangent extensions - even on imported data.

Detect Redundant Bodies
When working with imported models, construction data or duplicate surface information is often present within the file. This application automatically detects redundant bodies and moves the data to user-defined layers.

Detect Small & Sliver Faces
Model quality is an important consideration for design & manufacture. Miniature sliver faces are often the result of multiple boolean operations and can often be problematic. This tool automatically detects sliver faces and presents the user with multiple choices for removal and healing.

Detect Seed Faces
Seed faces is a tool that allows the user to extract faces from a model based on tangency conditions. Ideal for core & cavity separation and for core box extraction for 'lost-wax' and die castings.

Repair Invalid Faces
This tool automatically attempts to repair invalid bodies. There are multiple reasons why a body can be corrupt and this tool identifies and tries to automatically fix and repair the problem zones (re-trimming, face reconstruction etc).

Body Memory Diagnostics
This powerful application is a toolbox to manage the memory allocation applied to individual surfaces or solid bodies. If model data appears to be larger than expected, this could be due to redundant attributes. This toolbox provides options to clean the geometry and remove unnecessary clutter.

Check Solids Interference
This tool allows the user to check geometry for touching or interfering conditions. The results can be graphically displayed for each condition type and intersecting wireframe geometry automatically constructed.

Tip Data
This tool allows the user to select a target and reference origin and automatically review the relevant translation and rotation values to move from one position to another. The results can be output to a text file and is particularly useful when working with data in 'car-line'.
