Telit 3G Terminals Connect Video Surveillance System in Buses for Sochi’s Winter Olympic Games 2014

Telit GT863-3G terminal based on the HE910 EUD module transmits video from cameras inside the bus to monitoring Winter Games security center

London, February 19, 2014 - Telit Wireless Solutions, a global provider of high-quality machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions, products and services, today announced the application of its GT863 HSPA+ terminal to handle high-speed mobile data connection from about 1,300 buses to the Winter Games security and surveillance service center. The buses are an integral part of the infrastructure in place to support athletes and visitors at Sochi's 2014 Winter Olympic Games and the high-speed data link makes it possible for live video to be streamed from the buses to the Games' security apparatus.

The Intelligent Transportation Systems: ITS-City project, involved several large companies including a systems integrator responsible for adding the camera systems to the buses. Top coordination was the job of NIS-GLONASS also in charge of Moscow's very large ITS-City and many other GLONASS projects throughout Russia.

The GT863-3GE used in the project is an advanced high-speed mobile data terminal. It is based on the HE910 EUD tri-band UMTS/HSPA+ 850/900/2100MHz module, and a member of Telit's flagship xE910 module family delivering 3G radio access technology in the company's popular 28.2 x 28.2 x 2.2 mm family form factor. The Telit xE910 Unified Form Factor Family is comprised of 2G, 3G, and 4G, 3GPP and 3GPP2 products sharing a common form factor as well as electrical and programing interfaces allowing developers to implement a "design once, use anywhere" strategy.

"The Sochi Bus video surveillance system application for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games shows again the growing presence of M2M technology and its unbound benefits to business and society. In this case specifically we see a clear demonstration of its value to public safety and personal security," said Felix Marchal, chief product officer at Telit Wireless Solutions. "This exceptional and easy-to-use Python-capable terminal will continue accelerating our global engagement with vertical application areas requiring quick turn-around and extremely reliable solutions such as this one represents."

With over a decade of exclusive focus on M2M, reducing technical risk and shortening time to market for OEMs and integrators, Telit is the industry's ONE STOP. ONE SHOP. We leverage M2M's broadest portfolio in cellular, short range and positioning technologies paired with m2mAIR services covering application enablement as well as mobile network and internet/cloud sides of connectivity.
