MoSys Announces Industry’s Lowest Power 100G Full Duplex Retimer IC for Small Form Factor Optics Modules and Networking Line Cards

LineSpeed™ 100G Low Power Retimer Supports IEEE and OIF Standards and CFP2, CFP4 and QSFP28 Module Form Factors Used in Carrier, Enterprise, and Data Center Applications

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 15, 2014MoSys (NASDAQ: MOSY), a leader in semiconductor solutions that enable fast, intelligent data access for network and communications systems, today announced its new LineSpeed™ 100G Low Power Retimer integrated circuit (IC) for next-generation networking and communications systems. The full-duplex quad retimer device supports CFP2, CFP4 and QSFP28 module CDR requirements with a single chip and delivers a strong self-adapting receive equalization for ease of connection and improved signal integrity for up to 20dB of insertion loss. The device features the industry’s lowest power dissipation at 700mW, small full-duplex footprint, reference-free operation, integrated system and line side loopbacks, and on-chip PRBS generation, error checking, eye monitor and diagnostic capabilities using the MoSys IC Spotlight™ Analyzer.

The LineSpeed MSH110 IC is a single chip, CMOS device designed to support IEEE 802.3ba and OIF CEI-3.0 electrical standards. Specifically optimized for low-power 100G module and line card applications, the MSH110 device optimizes performance, space and power for 100G modules and line cards used in data center, enterprise or service provider systems. The device supports Ethernet and OTN baud rates ranging from 24 - 28 Gbps and includes adaptive equalization to support applications ranging from CEI-28G-VSR to CEI-28G-MR (up to 20dB insertion loss). The device has eight independent channels, each consisting of a receiver connected to a corresponding transmitter. Data can be input and output on all eight channels simultaneously.

Key Features:

  • Supports 100G IEEE and OTN standards and module form factors (CFP2, CFP4, QSFP28)
  • Optimized for ultra low power and integration
    • Industry lowest power - 700mW
    • High integration - full duplex 100G (8 CDRs)
  • Ease of use for OEM and carriers
    • Self adapting Rx equalization simplifies connectivity
    • Equalization supports up to 20dB for improved signal integrity, margin and distance Tx equalization for flexibility
    • Extensive test features, including internal loopbacks, PRBS generation / checking, eye monitor
    • Lane swapping and lane duplication features
  • Design simplicity
    • Reference-free option (includes both reference and reference-free modes)
    • Leverage common CDR platform across optical standards
    • Small form factor 8x8mm FCCSP

“In the productization of 100G module and line card solutions for systems ranging from 100s of Gigabits to terabits per second, challenges in power, ease of connectivity, signal integrity, testability, economics and footprint must be met in order to enable mass deployment," stated John Monson, VP of sales and marketing at MoSys. “The LineSpeed 100G Ultra Low Power retimer leverages CMOS technology to address these challenges with the industry’s lowest power consumption and highest integration, self-adapting receive equalization for quick connection and robust operation, and extensive self-test and loopback features for system testability.”

MoSys' MSH110 LineSpeed 100G Low Power Retimer product is offered in an 8mm x 8mm FCCSP package and sampling to early technology partners now. For information about evaluation platforms, availability and pricing, contact a local MoSys sales representative at
