Keysight Technologies Introduces Next-Generation Phase Coherent PXIe Multi-Channel Vector Signal Analyzer and Generator for True 8x8 MIMO and Beamforming Tests

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 2, 2015 — Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today introduced a multi-channel phase coherent M9391A PXIe vector signal analyzer (VSA) and M9381A PXIe vector signal generator (VSG) for characterization and test of the latest wireless designs requiring multiple time-synchronized or phase coherent channels. These new capabilities address rapidly evolving wireless technology challenges, including the ability to validate critical multi-antenna techniques, such as diversity, carrier aggregation, 8x8 multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) spatial multiplexing and beamforming, used in the development and verification of next generation cellular, wireless connectivity and 5G devices.

Keysight also introduced the LTE/LTE-Advanced Multi-Channel Reference Solution that combines multiple phase coherent PXI VSAs and VSGs, available in 2-, 4- or 8-channel configurations, with Keysight’s industry-leading application software, multi-channel configuration and calibration tools. The Reference Solution brings together hardware and software, enabling engineers to accelerate test set up and gain deeper insight into complex LTE and LTE-Advanced designs. Independently tuned channels support inter-band carrier aggregation and simultaneous uplink and downlink measurements, while 160 MHz modulation and analysis bandwidth address intra-band carrier aggregation.

“The 8-channel phase coherent PXI VSA and VSG provide cutting-edge capabilities customers need to improve wireless system data rates and signal quality,” said Keysight’s Mario Narduzzi, marketing manager, Software and Modular Solutions Division. “The new Reference Solution speeds implementation of LTE and LTE-Advanced tests and takes the guesswork out of configuring the multi-channel hardware and software, ultimately providing confidence in the measurement results.”

Using the flexibility of a truly modular platform, the PXI VSA and VSG deliver channel-to-channel phase coherence by sharing a single local oscillator to achieve better than 1-degree phase jitter between channels. PXI backplane triggering is used to enable superior timing alignment of less than 1 ns across channels. A novel, patent-pending correction technique enables fast, accurate time and phase alignment between channels, even in the presence of external cabling and connectors.

Engineers can use Keysight’s Signal Studio and 89600 VSA software to generate and analyze up to 8-channel phase coherent signals, providing insight into their latest wireless devices. The software simplifies creation of fully encoded, standard–compliant test signals and enables demodulation and cross-channel measurements to characterize complex MIMO designs.

The compact PXI form-factor accommodates up to four VSAs or VSGs in one 18-slot PXIe chassis and can be scaled to multi-chassis configurations as needed. With hardware capability upgradeable through license keys and Keysight’s standard 3-year warranty included, the PXI VSA and VSG provide a future-ready platform for multi-channel test.
