Visteon to Set Pace in Global Cockpit Electronics Market

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2009 /PRNewswire/ -- LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC), a leading supplier of a full range of cockpit electronics products, is set to leverage its significant global scale and unique cross-cockpit integration capabilities to bring a full portfolio of flexible and scalable cockpit electronics solutions to vehicle manufacturers. Visteon is emerging as a leader in integrating multimedia systems and consumer electronics technologies into vehicles - from premium audio systems to reconfigurable displays to the latest advances in human machine interface (HMI) concepts and haptic controls.

Visteon is demonstrating its latest advancements in cockpit electronics - including audio and infotainment, driver information and center stack electronics - at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Jan. 8-11.

Visteon's latest infotainment platforms and connectivity solutions are designed to allow vehicle manufacturers to easily integrate rapidly evolving multimedia requirements and services. Through dedicated and syndicated research, Visteon engineers and designers apply various HMI methodologies to develop solutions that enhance how vehicle occupants interface with the vehicle. This basic premise can help automakers define their unique brand signatures and differentiate vehicles within a platform or from the competition.

Designing products that can successfully integrate attractive new features while limiting the incremental information processing burden imposed on the driver is a critical objective of Visteon's advanced development work in HMI. Visteon's focus on solutions that integrate proximity sensing and haptic controls - such as force feedback touch surfaces - enables programmable tactile feedback (like a click or pop beneath your finger) that can be rapidly tailored to create a different feel when activated.

"The rapid convergence of automotive and consumer electronics is driving increased consumer demand for infotainment content and features in today's vehicles," said Steve Meszaros, president of Visteon's electronics product group. "Historically, automotive electronics have been dominated by proprietary hardware and software solutions with limited ability to upgrade once installed in the vehicle. In response, Visteon is driving its cockpit electronics portfolio toward open architecture solutions that can create a portal from the vehicle to the ever-expanding digital world."

"Many consumer electronics companies, despite their expertise, aren't experienced in meeting the specific requirements of in-vehicle applications," Meszaros said. "Conversely, automakers often don't have extensive experience directly integrating such a broad array of infotainment and connectivity-related features into their vehicles. Visteon's primary advantages in this new environment are our proven cross-system integration capability in the vehicle environment and the breadth of our product portfolio."

This approach gives Visteon the opportunity to offer its customers more choice and flexibility in its cockpit electronics portfolio, and to facilitate fast and easy upgrades of products and features.

The balanced global scope of Visteon's electronics product group spans 17 manufacturing plants, 10 development centers and three customer service centers, and includes strong manufacturing and product development capabilities in Brazil, India and China that position Visteon well to support the rapid growth in emerging markets.

"On balance, I think we have one of the strongest global footprints to support our customers with solutions tailored for their specific needs, independent of vehicle platform or geographic location," Meszaros said.

Visteon Corporation is a leading global automotive supplier that designs, engineers and manufactures innovative climate, interior, electronic and lighting products for vehicle manufacturers, and also provides a range of products and services to aftermarket customers. With corporate offices in Van Buren Township, Mich. (U.S.); Shanghai, China; and Kerpen, Germany; the company has facilities in 27 countries and employs approximately 35,500 people.
