Fairchild Semiconductor's Global Power ResourceSM Center in Greater China Delivers LCD TV Design for Domestic Manufacturers

SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—January 20, 2009— Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high performance products that enable energy-efficiency, continues to see success at its Global Power ResourceSM Centers (GPRC) with design wins and solution developments from its centers in Greater China.

“One of the greatest successes to come out of this region’s GPRC’s is our LCD TV integrated power solution. This design integrates power factor correction, an AC-DC power supply and a DC-AC backlight inverter directly from the PFC output. It eliminates one stage of power conversion, increases efficiency and reduces total system cost. Fairchild has provided this reference design for LCD TVs to some of China’s leading LCD TV manufacturers,” said Spencer Fanchiang, Fairchild’s senior manager, Global Power Resource Centre, Asia Pacific.

“Our team at our GPRC in Shenzhen built the reference design entirely from products in the Fairchild portfolio. Products incorporated include: PFC ICs, PWM and FPS™ devices, backlight control ICs, MOSFETs, optocouplers and HVICs. The benefit for our customers is immeasurable, as we have been able to design and develop a local solution for domestic suppliers that meets their needs,” concluded Fanchiang.

The centers worldwide provide Fairchild’s customers with system design support to improve performance in key areas such as energy efficiency or load performance while significantly reducing device requirements and lowering overall costs. These design centers focus on application areas most relevant to the local customer base. In China, the demand for consumer appliances, white goods and telecom equipment is expected to continue and Fairchild's products for power supplies, LCD backlighting, LED, CFL and LFL lighting and motor designs offer energy-efficient solutions for these applications.

As China continues to become a global powerhouse for new product development, Fairchild's design centers provide customers with direct local access to system design experts that deliver innovative, energy-efficient designs. The company has more than a dozen mainland China sales offices, several Global Power Resource design centers, joint labs and IC design centers, and a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Suzhou.

Fairchild's Global Power Resource initiative offers system power design, online design tools, evaluation boards, reference designs, webinars and power seminars to enhance and broaden support for its customers. These design, selection and educational tools are on its website for customers to access and optimize designs in real time.

Fairchild’s ongoing focus on power and energy efficiency, and the relentless implementation of its clearly-defined China business strategy, has been the key to its success in China.
