Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) to Leverage MIPS® IP Cores in Projects with Startup IC Design Companies

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — July 14, 2010 — MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced that it is teaming with the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea's leading research institute, to encourage SoC design innovation in Korea. Through the agreement, the ETRI IT SoC Industry Promotion Center has access to a range of high-performance MIPS32® processor cores that it can leverage in SoC design projects with startup incubator companies.

"The MIPS® architecture is well-respected throughout the world for its high-performance, low-power and elegant design, and it is used widely in digital televisions, portable media players, automotive infotainment and other consumer products. Agreements such as this agreement with MIPS Technologies make it easy for designers to adopt innovative technologies, ultimately helping to grow the IC design infrastructure in Korea. We look forward to continuing and expanding our relationship with MIPS," said Ho-Gil Cho, team leader, ETRI.

"We are pleased to work with ETRI to provide startup IC design companies with microprocessor IP options," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing at MIPS Technologies. "Companies who choose to use MIPS cores through their relationship with ETRI will benefit from cost-effective, high-performance, low-power solutions and a broad supporting ecosystem that can provide differentiation for their SoC designs. Our work with the AndroidTM platform, Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1 and other key technologies make the MIPS architecture an ideal fit for next-generation smartphones and other consumer products."
