Historically, Taiwanese PCB manufacturers, including Compeq, lag behind their American and Japanese competitors in the technology and specification areas. To change this, Compeq selected Windchill to create a platform that would allow them to respond to frequent design changes and improve overall time-to-market and cost for developing new products. Compeq selected PTC due to Windchill's proven ability to reduce time-to-market, improve service and facilitate design innovation at leading electronics manufacturers across the globe.
Since deploying Windchill, Compeq has shortened the time-to-market for new products, reduced costs, and improved innovative skills and service quality. Compeq has reduced the number of design and manufacturing changes from 450 to 300 a month, production defects from 17% to 15% and improved productivity by 10%. Compeq has also used these new capabilities to increase successful collaborative design projects with customers by 15 projects per year. Quality has also increased, with customer sample approval rates rising from 60% to 80%, significantly improving customer satisfaction.
Compeq's suppliers have also benefited from Windchill and decreased the design changes in mass production from four times a week to once a week. More importantly, the change frequency of ECO that suppliers have to undergo has decreased from seven times to three times a week. With less changes, the suppliers business also becomes much more cost and time efficient.
"The introduction of Windchill brings a clear division of responsibilities in the product development process and has improved problems with out-of-date or inaccurate information which is commonly associated with a manual process..." explained Chung Tze-wen, manager of information engineer planning, Compeq. "Because of its flexibility, Windchill has become a strategic platform that is able to meet Compeq's product development demands and fostered tighter relationships with key customers and partners, who also leverage the Windchill system for product information, collaboration and project tracking."
"Windchill provides a collaborative platform that offers the most flexibility and complete set of functions for High Tech companies like Compeq who want to create a collaboration platform. The metrics demonstrate that since the implementation of Windchill, Compeq has shortened the time-to-market, lowering cost, prompting innovative skills, and enhancing service quality. With Windchill, Compeq has made tremendous accomplishments," said Steve Su, senior vice president, Pacific Rim Operations, PTC.
