New GibbsCAM 5-Axis Option Demonstrated at PTC/USER World Event Americas 2007

New functionality provides a wide range of support for 5-axis machining.

MOORPARK, CA – May 31, 2007 Gibbs and Associates, developer of GibbsCAM software for programming CNC machine tools, announced today that a new GibbsCAM option, which supports 5-axis simultaneous milling, will be demonstrated at PTC/USER World Event Americas 2007.  The new option further extends GibbsCAM’s existing machining capability and provides the user with a complete range of 5-axis milling functionality.  PTC/USER World Event is being held at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida on June 3-6th, 2007.  This is the third year that Gibbs and Associates, a Silver partner in Parametric Technology Corporation’s Partner Advantage Program, has participated at PTC/USER World as a Bronze Premium Partner.

“In addition to multi-task machining, we are seeing an increased use of 5-axis machine tools in production manufacturing,” states Bill Gibbs, founder and president of Gibbs and Associates.  “Not only do 5-axis machine tools minimize the number of set-ups required to machine a part, but many of the models being created by Pro/ENGINEER® contain geometry that can only be machined using 5-axis technology. Impellers, turbine blades, porting on cylinder heads, and wing spars are great examples of parts whose geometry requires 5-axis.”

The new 5-axis module introduces the following capabilities:

Ø       Multi-surface 5-axis roughing and finishing.

Ø       Multi-surface 5-axis flowline machining.

Ø       Surface edge 5-axis swarf cutting (trimming vacuum-formed parts)

Ø       Adaptable interface, based on part type strategy, shows only what is needed

Ø       Advanced gouge checking ensures safe cuts in even the most complex operations.

Ø       Complete control over entry/exit, cut-to-cut, and between cut moves.

Ø       5-axis depth cuts machining.

“5-axis technology provides the user with the ultimate amount of control when applying tooling to a part,” explains Mr. Gibbs.  “Because of this, collision avoidance, improved surface finish, and reduced tool wear are some of the numerous benefits realized.  With the new 5-axis module, GibbsCAM users will not only be able to machine parts they couldn’t before, but may even be able to improve the machining of parts they could.”

Gibbs and Associates licenses PTC’s Granite kernel to ensure seamless interoperability with Pro/ENGINEER.  Visitors to PTC/USER can see demonstrations of the latest level of interoperability between GibbsCAM and Pro/ENGINEER® or see GibbsCAM’s new 5-axis capabilities, at the GibbsCAM Booth #609.  Information about GibbsCAM is also available at the company’s website, www.GibbsCAM.com.

Anyone can show graphical toolpath off purchased 5 axis code. They left out the good part about having a post processer that can generate usable code for a 5 axis machine tool.
