CAD Interoperability
The ability to share data among disparate CAD systems ? and especially among such programs Pro/Engineer, CATIA, Unigraphics, and SDRC I-DEAS ? has presented major challenges throughout the history of the CAD industry. Initiatives range from the use of direct translators, neutral file formats (ie. STEP, IGES), and native-to-native feature-based file translation, to facilitating data exchange via a common modeling kernel (ie. PTC?s Granite One, Spatial?s ACIS, UGS Parasolid.) Are we even close to achieving the goal of seamless integration, in which a model created in system A can be imported and used with confidence in system B? Use this forum to post your questions and comments, as well as any helpful tips and techniques you?d like to offer on CAD interoperability.
