Virtual Assembly Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

My university's graphics research center has been hired by a major engine manufacturer to explore the possibilities of simulating assemblies in virtual reality, and put an an assembly from one of their new products into the virtual environment to aid them in assembly line design.

We have the hardware capabilities to do this, but most of the work done here is not CAD oriented, so we are lacking in software. We need a program capable of stereoscopic display, realistic simulation of motion and gravity (such as the drape in chains or belts) and the ability for the user to break the assembly down by parts and assemble it just as they would in real life. Cyber glove/Pinch glove support is a must.

Does anyone know if there is a software package, or combination of software packages that can do this effeciently? Input would be greatly appreciated.
